Education

Education

Our current public education system is chronically underfunded and has systemic inequalities under which our students, teachers, and staff cannot thrive in.

To strengthen public education, we must increase the state’s share of funding and focus on special education and Pre-K.

Healthcare

Healthcare

Nearly 1 in 5 Texas children don’t have health insurance (nearly twice the national average), mothers are dying in childbirth or right after at alarming rates, and many Texas families are one medical incident away from a financial emergency.

Medicaid expansion, mental health support, and addiction intervention will provide Texans access to the healthcare they need.

Property Taxes

Property Taxes

Budget cycle after budget cycle, the Texas Legislature has failed to adequately fund our schools leaving taxpayers to foot the bill.

Shifting the tax burden looks like appraisal reform, local options for freezing property taxes for seniors, and closed corporate property tax loopholes.

Criminal Justice Reform

Criminal Justice Reform

Texas has the 6th highest state imprisonment rate and growth for incarcerations spending has outpaced growth for education spending significantly in the past 20+ years.

Prioritizing community safety means shifting money and resources from prisons to diversion, treatment, and support services.

Voting Rights

Voting Rights

Former President Lyndon Johnson said, “the vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice.” Unfortunately…somebody forgot to tell the Texas Legislature.

We need to make it easier for all Texans to vote and have confidence in the electoral process.

Environmental Protection

Our world’s climates are rapidly changing, and Texas is no exception.

Let’s continue to keep this a big state with bountiful open spaces and diverse ecosystems that we enjoy, and help drive our economy for generations to come.

Local Control

Local Control

The State Legislature cannot continually be at odds with city, county, and local elected leaders.

Local leaders are crucial to decision-making for the community and must be brought to the table to find innovative solutions to the pressing problems facing our state and local communities.

Legislative Milestone: First Bill Hearing

On Monday, March 4th I reached another legislative milestone in having my first bill hearing, laying out H.B. 933 and H.B. 1238 before the House Elections Committee! After filing a bill and having it referred to a committee this is the next step in the legislative process. After hearing the bill, taking testimony from the public, and making any changes, the chair can call vote. If favorable, the bill moves on to either the Local & Consent Calendar or Calendars committee.H.B. 933: Election Info
