Our current public education system is chronically underfunded and has systemic inequalities under which our students, teachers, and staff cannot thrive in.
To strengthen public education, we must increase the state’s share of funding and focus on special education and Pre-K.
Nearly 1 in 5 Texas children don’t have health insurance (nearly twice the national average), mothers are dying in childbirth or right after at alarming rates, and many Texas families are one medical incident away from a financial emergency.
Medicaid expansion, mental health support, and addiction intervention will provide Texans access to the healthcare they need.
Budget cycle after budget cycle, the Texas Legislature has failed to adequately fund our schools leaving taxpayers to foot the bill.
Shifting the tax burden looks like appraisal reform, local options for freezing property taxes for seniors, and closed corporate property tax loopholes.
Texas has the 6th highest state imprisonment rate and growth for incarcerations spending has outpaced growth for education spending significantly in the past 20+ years.
Prioritizing community safety means shifting money and resources from prisons to diversion, treatment, and support services.
I was a student in high school when Columbine happened. I remember the shock and horror but also the fear that this could happen in my own community. In 20 years, it seems like nothing has changed except that more and more communities have summered a similar fate.
Gun violence is a public health crisis and must be treated as such, with a robust approach focused on safety and saving lives.
Friends,March was a busy month at the Capitol! The Texas House adopted its version of the state biennial budget, we laid out more bills and reached additional legislative milestones, and we are busy preparing for our HD 136 Town Hall. This edition of the monthly Bucy Bulletin will cover that as well as showcase community events, discuss legislative updates, and highlight our Artist of the Month.I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve you, HD 136, and the people of Texas. Every Texan deserves equal opportunity and to be treated with respect and dignity. In spite of this, LGBTQ+ Texans have been under attack by state leaders who play politics with people’s lives.
We’ll fight back on attacks on LGBTQ+ Texans and push for true equality in every aspect of society.
Former President Lyndon Johnson said, “the vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice.” Unfortunately…somebody forgot to tell the Texas Legislature.
We need to make it easier for all Texans to vote and have confidence in the electoral process.
Our world’s climates are rapidly changing, and Texas is no exception.
Let’s continue to keep this a big state with bountiful open spaces and diverse ecosystems that we enjoy, and help drive our economy for generations to come.
The State Legislature cannot continually be at odds with city, county, and local elected leaders.
Local leaders are crucial to decision-making for the community and must be brought to the table to find innovative solutions to the pressing problems facing our state and local communities.
Join us on Saturday, April 6th for a legislative town hall at 2:00 pm at the ACC Cypress Creek Campus – Building 1000, Multipurpose Room (MPH 1102) in Cedar Park. On Monday, March 4th I reached another legislative milestone in having my first bill hearing, laying out H.B. 933 and H.B. 1238 before the House Elections Committee! After filing a bill and having it referred to a committee this is the next step in the legislative process. After hearing the bill, taking testimony from the public, and making any changes, the chair can call vote. If favorable, the bill moves on to either the Local & Consent Calendar or Calendars committee.H.B. 933: Election Info
