The future of Texas public schools is under attack! Soon, we will have a special session on education funding and vouchers—the stakes couldn’t be higher. Our students, our teachers, and our families are being used as political pawns by Governor Abbott and out-of-state billionaires.
Last session, we allocated $5 billion dollars for public education, but the money is just sitting there. Instead of giving that money to our public schools that desperately need it, Governor Abbott wants to funnel those dollars to private schools with no accountability.
Our schools need more funding, our teachers and support staff need a raise, and we need to make investments in special education, student mental health, and school safety. We should not be risking the future of our students for political gain. I won’t bankrupt our kids’ future.
I’m a product of our public school system and I come from a family of educators. My wife, Molly, is a former public school teacher. We know public schools empower every child in Texas to reach their full potential.
I will never vote for a bill that includes a voucher scam. I will never vote for a bill that privatizes our Texas public education system. I will never vote for a bill that hurts our students. Public tax dollars do not belong in private schools.
